Ms. Sutton says of Emahoy’s music, Mother’s Love, “it felt like being wrapped up in a warm duvet. I became obsessed by the song…”
Mary Sutton is a pianist, composer and teacher based in Portland, Oregon. She received her Bachelor's in Music Composition from New England Conservatory and her Master's in Piano Performance from Portland State University. She is known as a pianist for her work with legendary Ethiopian composer and nun Emahoy Tsegue-Maryam Guebrou, whose music she transcribed and edited into a book of scores now available through the Emahoy Music Foundation.
